Your Health, the Environment, and Animals Used for Food

Chickens are probably the most abused animals on the Earth today. They may not be as cute or cuddly as puppies or kittens, but they have the same capacity for suffering and they deserve just as much love and respect. In fact, if farmers treated dogs and cats the way they treat chickens, they would be locked up for cruelty to animals!

Did you know that chickens love to sit in the sun and scratch in the dirt? Or that they form strong bonds with other chickens and even like to cuddle up to one another? It’s true! But chickens who are raised for food don’t get to do any of the things that come naturally to them. In fact, these sensitive birds spend their whole lives crammed into dark, filthy sheds with thousands of other birds and only see the sun when they’re loaded on to trucks and sent off to slaughter.
