Hey, Glamour Shots: Bunnies Aren’t Props!
Spring is just around the corner, and you know what that means … annual Easter photo time! For many of you, this means getting all dressed up in your best gear and being carted off to the nearest mall for a totally lame photo session, just so Mom and Dad can send their fave pictures to your grandparents, aunts, uncles, and anyone else they feel the need to bombard with your cuteness. As if school pictures weren’t bad enough!
As embarrassing and uncomfortable as it is for you, it’s a million times worse for the bunnies who some studios think should be in the pictures. (Please—like you’re not cute enough all by yourself!) Bunnies and other animals aren’t props or models, and they don’t belong in photo sessions. The photographers have no idea how to care for these super-sensitive animals who have special needs and are easily stressed. Just imagine how scary it is for the bunnies to be handled by strangers all day long—being squeezed, squealed at, and even dropped. And some of the bunnies used in photo shoots have even died from stress-induced heart attacks!
When some studios are through with them, many bunnies will be dumped at animal shelters, where they’ll be euthanized because there aren’t enough homes for them. Some will be let go outside and will end up starving to death because they’ve been raised in captivity and don’t know how to fend for themselves. Others will be raffled off, which is totally illegal in many states, to people who have no idea how to care for rabbits—it’s much different than caring for a dog or a cat.
So, what can you do about it? Easy! Boycott Glamour Shots! Ask Mom and Dad to take you to Target, Sears Portrait Studios, or Lifetouch, Inc., because they don’t use live animals. Then let Glamour Shots know that animals aren’t props, and several of you will receive a super-cute stuffed bunny toy! You have two steps to follow to get the stuffed animal, but you’ve done this before, so we know you can handle it:
