Meet the Winners of the World's Cutest Vegetarian Kid Contest!
Congratulations to Caitlin Rosendorn and Ian Kaminski, the winners in PETA Kids' first-ever World's Cutest Vegetarian Kid contest!
Proud parents and grandparents from all over the globe sent in photos of their fabulous vegetarian kids and grandkids to enter them in the contest. Picking just two winners from the hundreds of entries we received was one of the hardest things we've ever had to do here at PETA Kids, because there sure are a lot of cute veggie kids out there!
Caitlin Rosendorn
Meet 6-year-old Caitlin Rosendorn of Bloomington, Illinois. Caitlin's mom, Melinda, thinks Caitlin made the decision herself not to eat animals around the time she began watching Emergency Vets on Animal Planet. "She really understood that animals have just as many feelings as humans do and that they deserve to be treated kindly and with respect," Melinda says.
Caitlin loves Tofurky sandwiches and Morningstar Farms corn dogs, and when asked about being a vegetarian, Caitlin lets others know that she loves animals and doesn't want to eat them. Not only does this little lady with a heart of gold have a great sense of style—just look at that ensemble!—she also has great taste in music and loves female-fronted bands like Rainer Maria and Rilo Kiley.
When she's not busy educating her kindergarten teachers and classmates at Stevenson Elementary School about her cruelty-free lifestyle, Caitlin volunteers at the local humane society, helping to socialize the puppies and kittens by playing with them. Caitlin enjoys reading, writing, and playing with her rescued companion cats Flora and Fauna. And she eagerly donates her piggy bank money to help animal shelters and rescue groups.
Ian Kaminski
Seven-year-old Ian Kaminski of North Syracuse, New York, is a proud vegetarian who never misses the chance to tell others what's wrong with eating meat. Ian's mom, Christina, tells us he's so compassionate that he knows he shouldn't even kill bugs and that after finding destroyed bird nests on the ground, he discourages his friends from climbing trees in order to protect other nests.
Ian also likes helping people and taking care of the Earth. This past Earth Day, he and his mom helped pick up litter along the interstate. Ian encourages other kids to help keep the Earth clean too.
A second-grader at Smith Road Elementary School, Ian likes veggies and Morningstar Farms Chik patties. He is a member of the Clay Panthers Pop Warner football team, and he enjoys playing outdoors with his friends and spending time with his cats, Dude and Lana. Ian can also often be found playing with his GameCube and Game Boy.
Caitlin and Ian will each receive a basket packed full of kid- and animal-friendly goodies, including a $100 gift certificate from KidBean.com. Both will also be featured in PETA's Animal Times magazine, making them instant celebrities.
