Lately, fish have been gettin’ lots of love on the
big screen … from sharks! Seriously, what’s with
all the vegetarian sharks all of a sudden? Not that we’re
complaining, but there must be a bunch of big-hearted writers
in Hollywood who’ve finally realized that fish aren’t floating vegetables.
First
there was the blockbuster hit Finding Nemo—you
remember that one, right? It’s the story of a little
fish named Nemo who gets separated from his father (Marlin)
when he’s taken from his home in the Great Barrier Reef.
During Marlin’s search for Nemo, he meets three vegetarian
sharks with hearts as big as the ocean itself who would never
eat fish because “fish are friends, not food!” Sound familiar?
And now, we find ourselves under the sea again in our new
fave movie, Shark Tale, starring our new fave vegetarian
shark, Lenny. Things are tough for Lenny—who gets his
voice from Jack Black—because he comes from a family
of mobsters. In fact, his father is “The Godfather”
so he has to keep up with the mobster image and hide his vegetarianism
from his family. They just wouldn’t understand why he
won’t eat his fish friends, let alone help one of them
stand up to the shark mob, but that’s just what happens
when Lenny teams up with smooth-talkin’ Oscar, who’s
played by Will Smith. Rush out and rent it today, or better yet, buy it so you can watch these two finned friends get into all sorts of trouble over and over again. Then ask mom to get you your very own “Fish Are Friends, Not Food” logo tee. And don’t forget to order yourself some “Fish Are Friends, Not Food” stickers, too, so you can spread the word to all your friends!
