Mother's Day Contest Winners
Well, we asked you to gush about how great your mom is, and gush you did! We wanted all the details, like, if she makes you yummy vegetarian meals because she knows that you should be eating your veggies, not your animal friends. If she can regularly be found volunteering at the local animal shelter, rescuing animals off the street, or stopping to tell fur-wearers what happens to animals before they’re made into coats. Or if she goes out of her way to make sure that your cat and dog are the happiest in town and if she was the one who taught you to be kind to all animals, including bugs. (Yes, even bugs.)
We got some fab responses about all kinds of great things moms are doing to help their kids make the world a better place for everyone. Congratulations to winners Emily, Nicole, and Mary Suethe prize packs for you and your moms are on the way, ladies! Check out their winning entries below.

My mom is so great. She’s been very sick for years now but still gets up to make my Dad’s lunch, gets him off to work, gets us up for school, makes our breakfast, [makes sure] our clothes are always clean and ready for us, then goes to work as a waitress. She’s tired and sore but never complains.
She cooks us vegetables, … we eat a lot of fruit and nuts and beans, and we drink soy milk or rice milk because it’s better for us. She found out she has cancer a few years ago, and we gave up fast food and meats and dairy products because it makes my mom feel better and it makes all of us feel better.
My mom deserves a vacation or some time to relaxso does my dad, but this is a contest for moms.

I am Emily Herzog, and I’m 11 years old. I am writing because I think my mom is the greatest. She is a vegan and has raised me as a vegan, ever since I was born. She is a teacher and teaches her students about being kind to animals and the suffering they go through. She volunteers at the animal shelters during the summer when she has free time and helps lost dogs (and, one time, a hamster that my brother brought home) find their human companions. When a circus comes to town, … if it has animals in any of the acts, she will go out and protest, no matter how cold, windy, or rainy it is outside. My mom’s name is Jan Herzog, and I hope she gets to win this award.

The World’s Greatest Mom
There are no perfect words to describe how great my mom is, but I will try my best to describe how wonderful she truly is. She has accomplished so much and has done so many amazing things for my family and the animals of this world. My mom went vegan after learning how animals were raised and slaughtered for food. She knew she could not contribute to their pain and suffering so she immediately went vegan and has continuously educated others about factory farming and other animal-related issues by doing protests, handing out leaflets, and talking about it to coworkers and other people she meets.
My mom is, of course, a huge animal lover and has opened her home to many animals in need. She volunteers for an animal rescue group and goes to the shelter weekly to help find homes for the animals there. She also fosters cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can find their permanent home. She has spent so much of her hard-earned money to pay for toys, kitty and puppy formula, food, and other supplies to care for our companion animals and foster animals. I cannot tell you how much time she spends bottle-feeding kittens or puppies, cleaning after them, and playing with them.
My mom is always making me delicious vegan meals and going out of her way to make sure my family and the animals are taken care of. When she is not taking care of my family or all our animals, you can usually find her responding to action alerts or writing letters to companies that [do animal testing], pleading for them to stop. I am so lucky to have a mom like her; she is everything I could ever ask for. I love her so much!
My mom’s name is Sheri Savage.
