Little animals suffer big-time neglect at Petco. Eyewitnesses have seen animals crammed into filthy cages, denied food and water, and left to die from injuries and disease without vet care. Petco sells birds, hamsters, turtles, lizards, and other small animals to people who have no idea how to care for them. One bird was passed from store to store three times before he was finally sold to people who paid his $3,000 price tag. When the lonely bird screamed for attention, his new family put him in a box in the closet. By the time Foster Parrots rescued him, both his wings had been broken and he was terrified of being left alone in a lighted room. Parrots belong in the wild with their flocks, not in a cage! For years, PETA has tried to convince Petco to train its employees on how to properly care for animals, to provide veterinary care, and to screen buyers to make sure that animals are going to safe homes, but conditions have only gotten worse. Now were pushing Petco to stop selling animalsperiod. Small animals may take up little space, but they still need lots of care and attention, just like dogs and cats. All animals need creature comforts and a clean environmentbut they also have unique social needs. No two animals are alike.
