Why Animal Defenders are Mad at the March of Dimes

Did you know that some out-of-touch companies still force their makeup and styling products down the throats or into the eyes of bunnies? Hel-LO? Rabbits don’t wear eye liner or hair gel—except in research labs!

Animal tests on cosmetics and household products (like floor cleaners and dish detergent) aren’t required by law. So why do some companies drip chemicals into bunnies’ sensitive eyes? Can you say “money,” honey? Animal tests have a rep for being unreliable—results can vary from rabbit to rabbit—so companies that conduct them can put practically anything they want on the market—and claim it was tested for “safety.”

Fortunately, more than 550 companies now conduct real safety tests, using everything from computers to cloned human skin, that help consumers without hurting animals.

Bite Back!the leaping bunnyAlways buy cruelty-free! When in doubt, look for the leaping bunny. PETA and six other animal protection groups formed the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics in order to help consumers get accurate info on truly cruelty-free products. When you see the bunny on a box or bottle, you know that the finished product and the ingredients used to make it were never tested on animals.
