PETA’s new comic book, “A Rat’s Life,” compares
the lives of sad, scared mice and rats in laboratories to the rich
life of curious and smart little Sunshine, a rescued rat who lives
in a loving home. As we read about Sunshine’s daily adventures,
we also learn about other animals, like rabbits, pigs, monkeys, and
even dogs and cats, who are crammed into tiny cages and made sick
by experimenters testing drugs, poisons, and other chemicals. Did
you know that experimenters cut animals open to examine their brains,
organs, and muscles-sometimes while they are still alive? And that
these tiny animals with big needs (rats and mice are used in more
experiments than any other species) aren’t even protected by
laws that usually require that animals have some room to move around
and that their cages be kept clean!
The good news is that we can help animals like Sunshine by refusing
to buy shampoo, soap, toothpaste, lip gloss, and other products from
companies that test on animals. Find out more about Sunshine and other
