What’s got your favorite celebs talking? Animals! Whether
it’s Malcolm in the Middle’s Justin Berfield
confessing that Diva, his doggie, is “the love of his
life” or singer Nellie McKay telling ElleGirl
that she seeks out cruelty-free cosmetics, today’s hottest
stars are all abuzz about animal rights. Here’s what else
we’ve “overheard”: |
 |
When Redbook asked Alicia Silverstone
if she ever misses hamburgers, the longtime vegan replied, “No,
because I can always get one—but not a real hamburger.
At Astroburger [in Los Angeles], they serve both regular and
vegan ones. The other night I went there and ate onion rings
and a veggie burger. It was definitely a ... splurge. I call
it dirty vegan.”
You won’t see Orlando Bloom sporting a milk mustache anytime
soon. The actor, who plays a milkman-turned-boxer in The
Calcium Kid, says his role was “quite ironic. Dairy
doesn’t make me feel brilliant and I avoid it.”
Oceans 11 star Casey Affleck is no fan of fur. The
Massachusetts native wrote a letter to lawmakers asking them
to keep cruel traps out of his home state. Casey reminded the
reps, “Some animals, especially mothers desperate to get
back to their young, fight so vigorously to get out of traps
that they attempt to chew or twist off their trapped limbs.”
Pharrell Williams reveals that animal rights is all that in
an answering-machine greeting that he recorded for PETA: “Hi.
This is Pharrell from the Neptunes and N.E.R.D., and the person
you’re leaving this message for wants you to ... be kind
to animals—and so do we.”
