Keep Kitty From Being Cat-Napped (illustration by Ken Cursoe)

Your PBJ and homework are packed, and you're about to head to the bus stop. You're the last one out of the house so it's up to you how kitty will spend the day. Do you place her in a sunny spot next to the window? Or do you open the door and let her bolt to the neighbor’s yard as you bolt for the bus?

Danger Outside the Front Door
The "great outdoors" isn't so great for cats left outside. Speeding cars, dogs, diseases, and cruel humans aren't a puddy tat's best buds. Some of your neighbors probably think cats are "pests" to be kicked, while others just like to hurt and kill cats "for fun." And there are "bunchers" who steal cats—then sell them for use in lab experiments and school dissections.

What the Heck Is a Buncher?
Bunchers scan "free-to-a-good-home" ads for unwanted cats to sell to dissection supply companies. They also search for neighborhood cats who spend their days outside. As easily as you can call cats over for friendly scratches, a buncher can whisk them away forever.

Ever Wonder Where the Cats in Biology Class Come From?
PETA's undercover investigators at a large biological supply company witnessed the "cat man" deliver cats packed on top of each other in crates. The frightened cats were supposed to be gassed to death—but many were still alive when they were being embalmed. Yes, you read that right. The dead cats were shipped to schools all over the country so that students could cut them up in biology classes.

• Never let your cat outside alone. Like dogs, cats can easily learn to walk with a harness and leash. Warn your neighbors about the dangers of leaving their companion animals outside.

BITE BACK• Teach your biology teacher about humane alternatives to dissection. Write to PETA for a free dissection pack—and visit PETAKids.com.

• Order PETA's video about biological supply companies, "Classroom Cut-Ups," to show other students and teachers. Ask your local TV stations to air PETA's anti-dissection ad featuring 7th Heaven star David Gallagher. Visit PETATV.com for a sneak preview.

It's a Frog-Gone Shame!

Frogs are in danger of becoming extinct, thanks largely to decades of cruel killing for classroom dissections. Biology is supposed to study life—not pickled corpses. Check out Digitalfrog.com for details about humane, effective alternatives to frog dissection—and share the information with your school's science teachers.

"I'd kiss a frog even if there were no promise of a Prince Charming popping out of it! I love frogs."
