Animals Are Not Ours To Wear

When we asked the PETA crew what they’re craving for fall, they all said the same thing: “faux fashions”—of course! We all know that fur’s no fun, especially for the animals who are stuck in steel-jaw traps or spend their short lives pacing back and forth in crowded wire cages. But what about leather and wool? If your fashion includes compassion, then these should be off your shopping list, too. Ranchers shear sheep before they would naturally shed their winter coats, and millions end up sick or dying from exposure to the cold. And to get the down filling used to pad parkas, workers tear the feathers out of live geese; sometimes the birds are painfully plucked four or five times before they’re killed. Leather? We say, “Lose it!” Pleather’s much more trendy—and definitely more animal-friendly.

Fortunately, it’s easy to stay stylish (and warm) in skin-free fashions. Just check out some of these great faux finds that PETA staffers are stuffing their closets with.
