5 Ways You and Your Family Can Help Chickens

Chickens are such interesting and unique animals! Did you know chickens can recognize over 100 different faces? Or that they form close relationships with one another? They also have the ability to feel fear, pain, love, and joy—just like you! It’s important that we treat animals with kindness and care—and that includes chickens!

5 Ways You Can Help Chickens:

1. Watch PETA Kids’ Animated Chicken Video

This video is jam-packed with cool facts about chickens! Learn a new fact or two while watching. 😊 Then share it with a friend!

2. Ditch Eggs and Try a Vegan Option

Eggs cause harm to chickens! Female chickens who are forced to lay eggs are doomed to a life of living in tiny and cramped cages, injuries, and rarely (if ever) seeing sunlight. Ask your grown-up to try egg-free options like tofu scramble or use apple sauce, bananas, or flaxseed when baking!

3. Color Our FREE ‘Not a Nugget’ Coloring Sheet

This  coloring sheet is a good way to remind others that chickens are our friends, not food! Print it off and hang it up on your family fridge, put it in your binder, or share with a friend.

4. Stop Calling Chickens ‘It’

Chickens are living beings—not objects! Like all animals, we should refer to them as “he,” “she,” or “they.”

5. Try Vegan Nuggets

Vegan nuggets are still full of crispy goodness without any of the suffering! Ask your grown-up to help you get a pack of some of our favorites—like Morningstar Farms, Gardein, or Jack and Annie’s.

Remember: Animals like chickens are individuals who deserve our kindness and respect. They’re not here for us to eat, use, or mistreat in any way!
